thatś how i fixed it. after i did that, i found out i could also add a brightness meter to the panel

right click on panel> add to panel> brightness applet
this "brightness applet" may come in handy... if the brightness would actually change. lol.

i have the power management settings to dim the backlight when i unplug the computer, but it just sits there with 100% brightness, soaking up the battery. it's a sony vaio, which may be part of the problem.. ideas?
