    Re: Only wireless, no wired connections -- heron

    I found that this was a bug with the beta and still exists now. I did this quick fix and it worked!

    "I've had exactly the same problem, however just found the solution:
    In the Gusty Tribe 5 live installer, open a terminal:

    $ sudo su
    # rmmod forcedeth
    # modprobe forcedeth msi=0 msix=0
    # /etc/init.d/networking restart

    Your network interfaces should come back up and actually work now "

    Thumbs down Re: Only wireless, no wired connections -- heron

    BTW

    To set this as a startup type script thingy...

    Run gedit or kwrite as root and open /etc/rc.local
    Atl+F2 -> gksu gedit /etc/rc.local on ubuntu
    Run -> kdesu kwrite /etc/rc.local on kubuntu

    Paste the lines between the comment lines and exit0.
    rmmod forcedeth
    modprobe forcedeth msi=0 msix=0
    /etc/init.d/networking restart

    Cheers!

    stick a sudo in front of each of those lines when adjusting your /etc/rc.local though
    so it is in fact

    Code:
    gksu gedit /etc/rc.local
    (and in the middle of the file in between the lines starting with # but you do not start yours with an #, because rc.local ignores lines starting with an #)
    Code:
    sudo rmmod forcedeth
    sudo modprobe forcedeth msi=0 msix=0
    sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
    without the sudo's in place it still requires something like
    sudo bash /etc/rc.local

    Hello all, I'm a huge Ubuntu newbie so bear with me.

    I tried the above advice and it didn't work for me - I'm sure I was doing something wrong, lol. What I did was bring up a Terminal window from within Ubuntu (v 8.04) and then I entered all of the above information . . . but unfortunately nothing happened.

    Some tips and tricks would be appreciated.
