Re: Broadcom Wireless Setup for Hardy (Step by step)

i have the 4306 rev3 in a Hp zv5000 laptop. I tried to use the proprietary drivers in the Hardware Drivers Manager and had no luck. I followed the steps in this post and now after a reboot, i am able to see my network using KNetwork Manager and using Wireless Assistant to find my router and setup my WPA key but during the activation it sticks at 28% during the configuring stage and eventually gives me Connection Failure..

    Does anyone have an idea,
    Thanks

I was able to get my BCM4310 working using this step by step, but I also used another guide to recompile and load the latest ndiswrapper version.

The problem I had was that ndiswrapper would see the driver but no device present:

    bcmwl5 : driver installed

But now i got it to recognize the wireless device.

    bcmwl5 : driver installed
    device (14E4:4315) present

Is this the same problem you're having?

Can you share what you did? I am interested in how you resolved it though.

Have you already been successful in connecting without encryption? If I recall it is at 56% when it is has reached the dhclient stage. I think that 28% means that it is having problems at the iwconfig stage. I could be wrong though.

Re: Broadcom Wireless Setup for Hardy (Step by step)

    Well... my joy has been mitigated. The connection is s l o w . . .

Just started redownloading EVE Online. Can't get more than 20kB/s from the downloader. Normally I'd chalk this up to EVE server load, but I've got no extra bandwidth. Everything else inernet-related is dead slow with that download running. I tried some package installation over top and Synaptic splits the 20kB/s with EVE.

Normally I can expect at least 150kB/s (usually more if I find a good torrent). Needless to say: 20 < 150

Any ideas? I'm glad it's working and all, but full bandwidth will stop me from turning to the elephant in the room for bigger downloads.

Re: Broadcom Wireless Setup for Hardy (Step by step)

I should have mentioned that I just put my laptop's USB WiFi into the desktop and now I've got 170kB/s for the EVE download. I guess I could do things this way, but it's less than ideal since my wife takes the laptop elsewhere fairly often.
