Novice trying to set up multiple proftpd users with different permissions
I'm using that .conf file. I'd like the users set up this way, but I don't know how:
User Michael has permissions to do everything. He's the account I'll be using to administrate the server from elsewhere. His home directory is /home/michael/.
User ftp will be allowed only to read (and download, obviously) files. His home directory will also be /home/michael/.
Without signing in as ftp or Michael, you can't log in to my server.
I believe I've already covered the "can't go out of your home directory" thing, but if I haven't, feel free to correct me.
If someone could point me to a specific page to figure this ou even, I'd appreciate it. I really just don't understand the documentation that well; I'd really like to set this up tonight, and I kind of understand the basics, but not as well as pretty much anyone on here .
Sorry for my being a Linux newbie. I wish I had the time to learn about Unix-like operating systems more, to be honest. School sucks though...
I'm using Debian with GNOME.

Re: Novice trying to set up multiple proftpd users with different permissions
Could someone please help me...? I'm STILL confused about this, and it's been over a week... I can't seem to find any literature to tell me how to do this... I hope this bump was okay... Thanks.
http://pastebin.com/m1832a462 is that what I should use for users?
