    Question network manager alternative?

I once again got upset about network-manager:

    • no static IPs - only dhcp
    • no profiles
    • auto connect when network cable is plugged in - not always wanted because it could brake a second connection by rewriting the routing table
    • no support for ppp connections like modem or umts/gprs
    • no support for hidden essids

will those features ever be added???

    is there any alternative?

to whom should i speak if i want to address those problems?

as i was told wpa_supplicant is powerful enough to implement some of those features so why are they hold back?

    cheers

    josch

ah! this is really a GREAT tool!

    and it's even in PYTHON!!

i think this is exactly the kind of project i want to contribute to!

How does the original network manager even stand a chance against wicd?

My vote also for WICD...can't understand why this doesn't become the de facto standard for network managers...

I've used Wicd with an archlinux. It worked. I'm currently using NM with my hardy. It works.

    I'm kinda "agnostic" here

Does it work in Hardy? As you can see from the posts Wireless has been broken since RC - which in my opinion is unacceptable.
