    Audio CD Ripping

Under Windows XP I used Alcohol 120% for Audio CD ripping. Is there anything as good for Linux - specifically Ubuntu 7.10? Just need a reliable, simple app for 'on the fly' ripping...

    Re: Audio CD Ripping

you have a built in cd audio ripper called sound juicer just insert your audio cd into it and go.
If it doesn't automatically launch look for it in Applications->Sound & Video->Audio Cd Extractor.
To launch it from the terminal just type "sound-juicer" without the quotes.
Of course because its open source by default it only has three settings , the ability to rip to ogg vorbis (better quality than mp3), flac (Free Lossless Audio Codec) and Wav which you should be familiar with if you want mp3 ripping you will have to install the mp3 plugin for it via synaptic its called gstreamer lame, with that installed you can select mp3 output for rippping cd audio tracks.
