    8.04 xubuntu redetecting monitor settings

I know that i have been able to change it by monkeying around with the drivers then restarting the computer. But there has to be an easier way to to get into the monitor setup. Currently i need to change my flat screen monitor from a default lcd 1024x768 to a 1280x1024

In the settings manager/display the highest resolution i can get is 1024x768

Any hints tips or clues on this one?

    Code:
    gksudo displayconfig-gtk
Will get you into the screen and graphics GUI.

    Good Luck
