Re: HOWTO: Make festival TTS use better voices (MBROLA / CMU / HTS)

I entered the first command, and it displayed:

    Code:

    Reading state information... Done
Package festival-doc is not installed, so not removed
Package festival-dev is not installed, so not removed
Package festvox-rablpc8k is not installed, so not removed
Package festvox-kallpc8k is not installed, so not removed
Package festvox-kdlpc8k is not installed, so not removed
Package libestools1.2-dev is not installed, so not removed
The following packages will be REMOVED:
      festival festlex-cmu festlex-oald festlex-poslex festvox-don
      festvox-kallpc16k festvox-kdlpc16k festvox-rablpc16k libestools1.2

Now, the Festival package is completely removed from my Ubuntu right?

    After I entered:
    Code:
     lsb_release -drc
    It showed this
    Code:
    Description: Ubuntu 7.10
    Release: 7.10
    Codename: gutsy

I checked my File System after I used the 'remove' command above.

There is a 'festival' folder in my /usr/share/
The 'festival' folder (/usr/share/festival) contains a 'voices' folder and 'hts.scm' file.
The 'voices' folder has 2 other folder: 'english' which contains the MBROLA voices and 'us' which contains the HTS voices.

Yes, those were manually installed. You can remove them with:

    Code:
    sudo rm -rf /usr/share/festival
Does the HOWTO work correctly for you now?

Should I remove these folder before I start the HOWTO again?

It shouldn't matter -- but it doesn't hurt to remove them just in case.

Re: HOWTO: Make festival TTS use better voices (MBROLA / CMU / HTS)

I removed the festival folder, and started with the HOWTO. However
    when I entered this command
    Code:
    sudo apt-get intall festvox-don festvox-rablpc16k festvox-kallpc16k festvox-kdlpc16k
    It gave me this error
    Code:
    E: Invalid operation intall
When I tried the HOWTO yesterday, it worked when I entered that command. I don't know what wrong now.

Nevermind, I found the error now. Because I copy your command and paste to Terminal. And the command line has a mispell of the word 'install'.

    Thanks MonkeeSage

Doh! Typo! That should of course be:

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install festvox-don festvox-rablpc16k festvox-kallpc16k festvox-kdlpc16k

No problem. Sorry about the misspelling. I've fixed now.

Re: HOWTO: Make festival TTS use better voices (MBROLA / CMU / HTS)

I installed the standard Festvox diphone voices.

When I tested the voices, I can only hear the noise. Do I need to install any additional sound software?

    This is my testing result:
    Code:
Festival Speech Synthesis System 1.4.3:release Jan 2003

    For details type `(festival_warranty)'
