So... If I were to try to organize a meet in central Cali, who would come?

Depends how far inland you are.

I'm in the Santa Cruz Mountains, but would gladly come over the hill for anything 'buntu related.

I would definitely be happy to help organize a group. I'm in Fresno. I believe that once we got one started, we could really grow it. My experience is the hardest part is just getting started. I'm willing to contribute whatever time is needed.

    Hi toupeiro and archer6,

If you would like to start up a group to meet in person it might be more successful if you created/restarted a Linux user group. Pulling from a wider audience for participation is a good strategy for success. The page for the Fresno LUG listed on http://www.sbay.org/linux-info.html seems to be missing.

To participate in the LoCo there is no need to meet in person on a regular basis. Join us in #ubuntu-california on freenode.net. If you aren't familiar with IRC on freenode you will be amazed at all the OSS projects that maintain channels for discussion. There are also lots and lots of people talking about Ubuntu 24x7 in #ubuntu.

    Re: Central Cali

No sooner did I volunteer to give some time to this, than I got super busy at work, been doing 12 hour days, so my time has evaporated. I'm sure I could make time for a meeting. However as far as being an organizer, unfortunately I cannot participate due to my work load.

    Cheers

There is an Open Source/Linux group that is up and running in Fresno that Welcomes Ubuntu users named FOSUG. We meet once a month in Clovis. I've been with the group for about 4.5 years. In May we're having a potluck, details on the site. Come drop by if you're in the area. Also we're on IRC at: irc.freenode.net #fosug.

that sounds great. I'm in Fresno too and am looking for other like minded users to learn/share from. Cant make it to potluck but monthly meeting sounds fun.
