[SOLVED] I can't get the WM (Gnome or KDE) to launch in FreeBSD 7.0

    Hello all,

I installed FreeBSD 7.0 (desktop edition) on my laptop.

The installer was a major disappointment and made me wish I had a degree in Computing Sciences... After several attempts, I still can't get any decent Window Manager to start by default, either Gnome (which I prefer) or KDE. All I was able to achieve so far is these ugly xterm consoles.

Any help would be appreciated. Is there a way to install/run a WM upon startup? I checked the docs already but this hasn't solved my problem.

    http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO...ok/x11-wm.html

See section 5.7.1.2 Installing GNOME and that should clear things up for you.
