Should I switch to vmware?

I have used vmware on Windows.. It has options for you to utilize your graphics card... plus, you might not use NAT every time, but use the network adapter directly.. In my case, I use a simple file sharing app called IP Messenger (IPMSG32.EXE) under WinXP installed on virtualBox in Gutsy.. But due to NAT, it fails to detect other computers on the network.. plus, virtualBox doesn't provide me plug-n-play.. am I missing something here? Or should I simply switch to vmware?

i have always like virtual box on windows and linux it self but vmware i thought was always tricky to setup i would try it and see if you like it from your perspective

It depends on what you want to emulate. Virtualbox can only run Windows XP and will crash with Win2003. VMware will run anything, but it is a little slower than Virtualbox.

I have installed and set-up vmware server from the repos. I have registered myself and got the serial number. So you might say, installation and configuration part is complete for me

I'm kinda attracted towards vmware since it provides direct network access options, plus a choice for using how many processors, 64-bit support (which I have no clue that it would work or not) and an option to utilize my GPU, etc..
So you might say vmware is versatile, but slower than vbox..

Any suggestions which one should I use? I would just use it on a personal basis, because I need XP for AOE, and file-sharing, plus I need to try out new versions of BSD/Solaris and each Linux distro as they come out...

I'm interested to know how it goes for you, because I am also thinking about the same thing.
After you used it a bit, can you tell us your experience? Especially about performance and big differences that you may have noticed?

Ya sure.. I'll install XP on vmware tonite at home.. will check whether it works better than VBox or not.

hey Lii, how did you go?
I also installed vmware server and tried it out for myself.
I have to say it did not work well for me.

First I tried the beta 2 version, which I could not even get running at all. They seem to have changed the program to run entirely within the web browser... IMHO this is a step backwards not forwards.

Then I installed the standard version, and tried to install both mint 4 and pclos 2008 minime in it. I didn't have much success with either unforunately. The mint installer hung, and pclos couldn't seem to find the virtual disk to install to.

Perhaps I was doing something wrong, but for my virtualbox was much more intuative and as far as I can tell works better.
