DVD plays but not CDs so no printer

I have no trouble with sound in general. MP3s play fine, audio cds play fine and YouTube videos play fine. So do music instruction DVDs that I have. But the installation disks for my Canon and Lexmark printers on CD will not work and neither will some video CDs that I have.:

They are windows driver discs aren't they?
Ubuntu is linux, other than both being operating systems, they have nothing in common on how programs are installed.
ubuntu and linux in general has a lot of hardware support built in, so did you try just plugging in the printer and seeing if it recognized it?
if not please tell us the model of the printer you are using and what version of linux you use.

Well yeah, they are ******* drivers I guess. This pc was custom built in FL for my son, who then sold it to me for a very good price. It had XP Pro on it when I got it but it had a problem.

I put my Ubuntu disk in the CD rom drive and started up in safe mode using Ubuntu as a startup disk, and then formatted it to take up the whole hard disk. I don't regret that, cause I hate Microshaft for trying to shaft me. They wanna treat me like a peon I can do the same to them.

Oh yeah, this pc has a dual core intel processor.

One of my printers is a Lexmark 1200 Series All in one. I got it along with this computer.
My older one is a Canon iP1500. All it does is print but it used to do that well.

Actually both printers work fine with my old Wintel box but to use it I have to disconnect everthing and then hook it up. I guess everyone knows the drill.

I mentioned this pc has a dual core processor. It's pretty dang fast and I do have a broadband connection from Insight Cable.

Ralph, a search of linuxprinting.org (which now redirects to openprinting.org and the Linux Foundation sites) is a good reference for checking compatibility of various printers under Linux. A quick check for your Canon printer says that the gutenprint package may be required to make it work under Linux. Check your package manager to see if gutenprint is available and installed. Also check out the instructions for your printer at the above referenced site.

This site also should have information on your Lexmark device. I found a Lexmark 1200 listed, but I'm not sure if it's the all-in-one model you are using. Again, they have forums for Lexmark and IBM printers which you can also reference. I recall years ago that many Lexmark printers were considered boat anchors as far as Linux use was concerned. But perhaps that has all changed. I'm a Samsung printer user and so it's hard to keep up with everything else that is going on.

    Good luck,
