Play MMORPGs straight from the terminal of your choosing! A command-line telnet client is now included by default with Ubuntu! You can even kill your X session for increased performance! (hint: use ctrl-z to suspend the job and play in multiple worlds at once. lazily idle your wizard, heal your Novice, and take your aspiring PK'er out on a raid all at the same time! Just make sure not to log into the same game more than once lest ye be IP blocked!)

http://www.mudconnect.com/mud-bin/mud_biglist.cgi for hundreds of games to choose from! And they're free!

does anybody still play MUDs? Man, those were the days...Gophers, telnet, Abers, Dikus...life was so simple.

Yes, I know...I haven't played any sort of MMORPG since my MUDding days, and I saw fit to pay a bit of joking tribute to the classics of the genre, since logging into my parent's universities VAX servers and then telnetting into my friends' linux server was the first real experience I had with linux, the internet and subsequently with MUDs.

Indeed it is, and a linux client is available for download.

At this stage Planeshift is definitely a work in progress & labeled by the Devs as a "tech demo".

I would certainly recommend giving Planeshift a go despite this, as progress is being made with each update / release with regard to features and gameplay.

    Cheers.
