Getting Started with working with Ubuntu and Linux

Hi, this is my first post in the forums. I am currently studying Computer Science and Engineering and would like to get started working with Ubuntu. I have played with Ubuntu on and off for about 3 years however it has mostly just been fooling around with tutorials and topics I have found on here.

What I would really like to do is to develop a deeper understanding of the components and how they interact and work. Are there any resources you would recommend to get started with understanding how Ubuntu and Linux works. Thanks.

    How-tos, docs, general information, etc:

    http://tldp.org

About the linux File System Structure:

    http://tldp.org/LDP/Linux-Filesystem...Hierarchy.html

Introduction to the command line interface:

There are hundreds of tutorials, documents and information on the net about linux. If you have any problem, you can ask here in the forum or search on http://www.google.com/linux

    Greetings

The only tool you need is Linux itself, and a willingness to learn. I would strongly recommend getting comfortable in the terminal - the GUI is great as a modern desktop tool, but for a deeper understanding I would examine config files, and experiment with shell scripts.

Thanks for the replies. I haven't had a chance to read through a lot of the material yet but it should keep me busy for quite a while. Thanks again.

Try Slackware. You will learn Linux... or die
