Re: HOWTO: enable 3d acceleration w/ Rage Mobility (mach64)

WOA!!! I finally got this to work!!!!!
I have Edgy 6.10 with the -generic kernel.

The KEY enabler was Ally_S 's hacked gpart (go to her post here http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthre...?t=7200&page=7)

After following these directions, the mach64 drivers compiled successfully.

I still didn't get DRI, because I had to modprobe the mach64 (see the troubleshooting section at the top of this how-to).

I also had to reconfigure xorg to permanently lower the resolution to 1024x768 with bit depth of 16.

    After reboot....got this:
    Code:
    glxinfo | grep direct
libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x4b
    direct rendering: Yes
3D Screensavers are running....oh how much adrenaline can we still draw from these old clunkers?

Cool Not compile in feisty with the kernel 2.6.20-6...

    Hi !!

I can't compile mach64-20060403-linux.i386 to have 3d acceleration for my compaq evo n400c graphic ATI Technologies Inc Rage Mobility P/M AGP 2x (rev 64) on Ubuntu feisty with the 2.6.20-6 kernel. I have the Linux headers, build-essential and gcc but I always have the same problem :

The script will now compile the DRM kernel modules for your machine.

Press ENTER to continue or CTRL-C to exit.

    Compiling...
ERROR: Kernel modules did not compile

The DRI drivers can not be installed without the latest kernel modules.
Installation will be aborted. See the dri.log file for information on
    what went wrong.

Anyone to help me, please?? Thanxs

Sorry. I think you must do some changes in this driver to support new kernel =(

Not checked this thread for a while, but I'm glad to see my modified ati_pcigart.c has helped some people out!

Re: HOWTO: enable 3d acceleration w/ Rage Mobility (mach64)

Thank You, Ally_S for your modification of ati_pcigart.c

This has been working great. It's brought this older laptop back to daily use for my daughter. This hardware was ultra-sluggish under *******, but Ubuntu is running fast, and now with 3D the experience is more than utilitarian, she's got the fireworks going.
My daughter saw me doing Beryl on my desktop and has been asking if it's possible to run this with this Rage card. Tried but failed to start.
    Is this hopeless case?
Anyway...if you look back posts, you'll see someone thank the "pcigart god person"...I second that, ur a goddess. cheers.

Awesome ... got dri on my Xybernaut MA V mobile. It's pretty sweet to have full 3d acceleration on a computer that fits in your hand.

Used the ati_pcigart.c hack and alls well so far ... hmm security, schmerity.

Re: HOWTO: enable 3d acceleration w/ Rage Mobility (mach64)

Well this was short-lived...just upgraded to the new Kernel linux-generic-17-11 and mach64 won't compile anymore, even with Ally_S's modified ati_pcigart.c

It was good while it lasted. Dominipater.
