    GEDIT indentation?

GEDIT is great for coding. It would be perfect though, if It could do automatic indentation for me, especially python. I can't seem to find a plugin which performs this certain task. Is there one?

    THanks

If you going to try that level of coding, I'd look into using emacs or vim. Gedit is ok though and geany is a little better. Theres a bit of a learning incline but not... all that bad.

I would suggest that you check out Geany, it's in the repositories.

Gedit can do automatic indentation. Go to Edit->Preferences->Editor Tab. Third option down is "Enable automatic indentation".

    Re: GEDIT indentation?

    There's a Gedit plug-in called "Indent Lines".

To use it, select several lines of text and hit Control + T to indent the selected lines; or Control + Shift + T to un-indent them.

The indention follows what you have set under Preferences > Editor > Tab Stops.

Yeah I tried that earlier and it didn't work for some reason.

    Thanks for the other posts.

This is exactly the plugin i used to use before lucid trashed my system. But i can't find it any more. Do you know where to find it?

    Re: GEDIT indentation?

There is a separate package called gedit-plugins which you can install, which expands gedit's capabilities nicely. I use gedit full time for coding. Geany and KATE are other nice lightweight editors, though I have yet to find something on par with Notepad++ from Windows.

    Re: GEDIT indentation?

Yes, I have those installed. It seems that the lucid crew have removed the indent plugin for gedit (along with a lot of other essential stuff, a little bit here, a little bit there). I found a separate indent plugin here but although i put it in the directory, and it now appears in the list of plugins, it's impossible to tick the box to select it. I haven't rebooted, will try again tomorrow and amend this if it works after a boot.
