Learning Perl, Randal L. Schwartz & Tom Pheonix, Oreilly.

It's a small book, along the lines of K&R. But if you have experience with C, it should be a breeze.

I know that book - it is famous. But isn't it a bit easy and won't it be boring for me to read all those basic terms etc all over again?

    Thanks for the suggestion.

It might be a bit boring for an experienced programmer. But it'll get you going in no time.

The only other book I know of, "Programming Perl", is too much of a reference to be any use.

The camel book has the best reputation. Programming Perl by O'Reilly, I think.

I have been looking at Programming Perl too, and it seems like it could be better for programmers than Learning Perl would be, but I can't find it anywhere. I live far away from the US.

    Re: Perl For Programmers?

I recommend Learning Perl the Hard Way. It's short, informative, and was written for programmers who want to learn Perl. Seems to fit the bill.

Check my wiki. I don't have a lot on Perl though.

I'm a perl programmer. This is the very first perl book I have read: http://www.perl.org/books/beginning-perl/

    It's a free online book.
