Win XP Installation In Virtualbox Fails

I am running the latest version of VB in Kubuntu 7.10 on a Dell Latitude C610.

I am trying to install Windows XP Pro SP2 as a guest, but it fails on each attempt.

Specifically, I get through the Windows installation as far as the windows partition formatting step. At about 20% my laptop just completely freezes (in other words, my linux session becomes completely frozen, and I can see the the CPU is maxed out.) I have tried a few things:

    1. In VBox I changed the virtual drive from dynamic to fixed at 10 GB.
    2. I also tried copying the Windows install disk to an ISO, thinking it might be a problem with reading from my optical drive.

Beyond this I am at a loss. I have successfully completed this same installation on my desktop machine at work, but would really like to get it working on my home desktop.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Without making you mad...

Is there anyway to convince you to use VMware... I think your chances would greatly improve...
