    Floorplan stencils

I'm looking for Linux software that will let me draw a house floorplan...namely, I need something that has available stencils for:

    - Walls
    - Doors
    - Windows
    - Electrical/telecom (ceiling fans, outlets, etc)
    - Counters, sinks, toilets, bathtubs, etc

Pretty much like the building plan stencils that come with Visio.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

There's autocad software in the repos you might also want to check google labs if I'm correct I think the had something like that.

Have a look at DIA, it's in the repositories.

You might want to goole it first to see if there are any building shapes for it.

I don't remember DIA from having anything like that. Visio's is really pretty cool.

Google has SketchUp! (for Windows.. don't know about Linux yet), but that's with building 3D models.

I'm interested in finding something though.

Sorry, I just had a quick google, and couldn't find any floor plan references for DIA.

Hi, You might try out QCAD (It is in the repositories).

I've used it some for drawing blueprints for redesigning my kitchen some.

Am not sure what you mean by stencils, but QCAD does use blocks (same as in autocad and most other cad programs I have used).

It had been a while since I used it (2 computers ago)...but, as far as I remember I believe it did come (in another package) with a lot of pre-designed blocks for use.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: Floorplan stencils

I found this thread while looking for a way to draw a floor plan myself and will be looking into qcad now.

I wanted to mention though, dia is really not the right program for this. I have used Dia a lot and it is a great program but not only is it not designed for creating a floor plan but you will also find that it lacks features which you will often need in creating one.

Dia is a great tool if you need to create diagrams, flow charts, etc but I believe you should use something CAD based for a floor plan.

I also just found someone referencing a program call CYCAS ( http://www.cycas.de/ ) for drawing a floor plan which is a CAD based system designed for architecture. I haven't tried this program myself and the person who posted the reference did say that their will be a learning curve.

I've used Sweet Home 3D and it seems like a nice piece of software. Give it a try...
