    Most useful posts in ubuntufourms.org

What is the best post(s) you have read in ubuntuforums? I'm talking about posts that helped you learn something and made the linux experience easier or richer.

For me the best post I read on the forum was year ago when I first started with linux. It is a post titled how to fstab. This post really helped me then. It has everything. It talks about an important subject in very easy terms. It manages to introduce you to the core points in clear manner, and yet, it does contain a lot of the not so basic information in way that does not confuse a beginner. Also it is well formated. And a lot of useful references.

Learning how to monitor my boot time with bootchart, and subsequently how to minimize the boot time with readahead were my personal favorites.

Being new to Linux ( Windows died in July ) Ubuntu is my first crack at something other than Microsoft.

I've been reading these threads like crazy, and as such I haven't had to ask nearly as many questions as I have had. The answers are already here for the most part.

Some things aren't as easy as others, like conky so this thread was has to be one of the best for me. It's also a very good example of how great the Ubuntu community is at helping each other out with problems.

I will say: the conky thread is my true #1 thread this year. It won me over on so many scales, including helpfulness and ability to follow.

    Quick comment here.

I am new to Ubuntu and linux this year and the Ubuntu forums are so very helpful for so many topics. I read a great how-to's on ndis wrapper and no apic no lapic. That fact the I even know what those things are is a testiment to how helpfull everyone has been. But when I searched for the posts to add as my nomination for most helpfull I couldn't find the right ones.

I realize that I have zero standing as a newbie in this community but I propose that when common problems are answered with a fabulous How-to's that we add that how-to a different "check here first " or "common problems" section of this website. This section wouldn't be active discussion, as such. It would include symptoms, so that it could be searched easily, and it would include the How to. This would also be usefull in pulling those wonderfull how-toes out of those really long problem discussion. Nothing is more tedious than reading 8 pages of complaints about a problem and 9 pages of people saying that the howto fixed it, all the while missing the post that told the later group how to fix the problem.

I can't program but if anyone wanted my help I would be willing to do some of the tedious work to make this happen.

When you said: I realize that I have zero standing as a newbie in this community and I can't program but if anyone wanted my help I would be willing to do some of the tedious work to make this happen., I think that put you well beyond the "0" standing.

I know "one thing", you know "another thing", we share them, makes us equal. That's what make this community tick.

    Just my opinion.

Welcome to Ubuntu, form one newbie to another.
