How long does it take u to compile a custom kernel if u compiled 1 or more - please reply with what u choose and the following info: Chip is + Ghz + Generaton Name & Memory u have for example mine is (oh and please guestimate if u can to the nearest hour): 0-1hours - about a little less On an INTEL P4 2.66ghz NO HT on a 512mb System .............................................. I would say itta be about 45-50m total. Full CPU 100% and can still use the system easily - a bit slower but not that much, also Why I asked was that I am curious becauee a friend on the forums said it takes him 3hrs with a newer P4 system with HT enabled compared to my oldie NON HT Intel P4...

Last I tried it was about 30 minutes. But I think it also depends on how many modules you include. My system is Athlon 64 3200+ socket 939. I use 2-2-2-6 RAM which helps a little.
While I've never compiled a kernel myself. I do know that the compilation of the kernel depends on the speed of the cpu and how many modules you include.

The only OS I've ever compiled my kernel on is Gentoo. It's been a while since I've compiled it since I'm currently not using Gentoo, but I think it was under 5 minutes. AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 1 GB RAM I did it using this guide: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handboo...?part=1&chap=7 I also used Gentoo's LiveCD, so it could have been faster if I was using the minimal install.
