    Re: vista look

I would suggest to start looking and the vista themes on http://www.gnome-look.org/ and then go from there on.

Another thing you should do is install Emerald (it's in the repositories by default) and then grab a "beryl emerald" theme from Gnome-look.org, with the transparent glass, etc.

Also, there is an icon set that mimics Vista on gnome-look as well.

If you are struggling, I can give you links to both (but they come in a variety of types, so It's best if you choose)

    Re: vista look

well here is a good vista like theme for you, I find it better then linista as it doesn't mess with the menubars in open office and firefox:
    aero clone
now as for a trash can on your desktop well you can do this:
right click on your main menu and select "edit menu's"
after this go to "system tools" in the menu editor and click on the box/circle or whatever next to something called "configuration editor", it should be quite noticeable as it has a car icon next to it.
after you do this exit the menu editor and then go into "applications" and then to "system tools"
and start up the configuration editor that you just added to the menu
after it loads click on "apps" and scroll down to "nautilus"
after this click on the arrow next to "nautilus" and then select "desktop" in this sub menu.
now after this you click on the box/ circle/ whatever next to "trash icon visible" you can also put a check next to the others if desired and now you will have a trash icon on your desktop.

now the menu bit, thats a bit rough, the closest thing right now to a vista like menu is the mintmenu that you can get from the linux mint repositories.
you can use linux mint repositories and packages in ubuntu as they are essentially the same, just go here:
the mint repository and download and install the mintmenu package
its a bit buggy but at least its being developed and improved upon
