Check it out. Here is a liveCD of a Buddhist studies distro that someone put together:

I like this idea ALOT. I think a good bundle of apps and some other things to include would bea digital Dhamapadda maybe with rndom quotes from it that come up at random times. Maybe some entries from the Pali Canon and the Shōbōgenzō.Aa calendar. And a meditation timer and a mindfulness bell app that goes off at set or random times. You would have tobe inclusive of all of the three main schools of Buddhism though or possibly make an edition for each with some small chages to each to fit each one. I think this is a pretty good idea and would love to see it happen.

I think Ubuntu Buddhist Edition is not needed - Ubuntu is already orange and you can meditate during slow boot.

I gots a better idea come to think of it..why not instead of making NEW distros, make theme packs instead; with instructions that even computer illiterates can understand?
But hey just a thought =P

Do you mean something that would install themes and apps and stuff all from one package? Hmmm methinks you're onto something hehe

    Re: Ubuntu Buddhist Editon

I'm not sure if this has been suggested yet, but here are some things I think should be in a Buddhist Ubuntu Version: A copy of the Lotus Sutra in some form or another. A meditation timer with relaxing music and perhase a virtual candle or pattern to meditate watching. Also, there should be a sangha feature that will link you to a Buddhist network of all the other users of BuBuntu that will let you all chat in real time or something through some sort of IRC room or something. Also, a graphical theme in bamboo greens might look good.
