Doesn't the name "linux" suck for an OS?

With no disrespect to Linus Torvalds, but I can't imagine the whole of humanity running machines with an OS named "linux", no matter how great the OS is. Can you imagine humanity spending the rest of its history using an OS named "linux"? A lot of people can't even say the word properly.

Can't we rename it to something cooler, or at least, sounds more formal? I'd be happy if we just borrow the "Unix" name.

    WTF?

is the word 'linux' any less formal than 'windows' or 'osx'?

It's pretty much just as fine as any other name.

well "linux" to the common world means "geeky" to some.
I dont think the name "linux" is bad, after all it is straight to the point: Linux Is Not UniX
its how we promote it that matters.

Even if I thought it were a good idea, it's highly unlikely that anyone could get the linux community to decide on a different name at this juncture, much less agree on one.

That's what distro names are for, IMHO.
