reason behind removing animated gif

I saw that gif (since removed) last night and it gave me such a headache. I removed it because it is very annoying and I don't even like looking at it.

that's an extreme gif, who the heck was using that. Looks like I started a flame war. They have no purpose other then being fun, the best option would be give users gif but have a option in the profile to get rid of them.
