Wubi 7.10 install stalls on Busybox and initramfs

First time trying Ubuntu here, so go easy on me:

    Installing on: Thinkpad T60 laptop
2 GB RAM, WinXPPro on C: which is NTFS
    CDROM is D:
    Blank 10GB partition E: which is FAT32

I tried to install Wubi 7.10 alpha-383 from the C: drive onto E:, using a downloaded desktop iso placed in the same directory as the wubi install file.
Install seemed to go fine until what seemed like the final reboot, at which time I get the black Ubuntu splash screen, then it goes all black with just this on the screen:
    Busybox v1.1.3 (Debian 1.1.1.3-5ubunu7) Bult-in shell (ash)
Enter help for a list of built in commands.
    (initramfs)

Is this hang here due to the fact that I tried to install to a partition other than my C: drive? I'm guessing tihs is the case, but want to check.
    Thanks.

    1. edit c:\ubuntu\disks\boot\grub\menu.lst
    2. replace "quiet splash" with "debug"
    3. reboot
4, at the command line type "cat /tmp/*.debug" <enter>
    5. there should be an error in the latest few lines, post it here.

Re: Wubi 7.10 install stalls on Busybox and initramfs

    I went ahead and edited
    E:\ubuntu\disks\boot\grub\menu.lst
and replaced "quiet splash" with "debug" (without quotes)
I rebooted, but it still hangs at the same Busybox/initramfs prompt.
It doesn't get to a command line.

Is this because I installed to the E: drive, which is the same physical drive as the C: drive? (both C: and E: are primary partitions).
    Thanks.

Normally you can type things at the Busybox/initramfs prompt

You may have to wait up to 5 minutes in some cases.

    Thanks for your reply.

I typed "cat /tmp/*.debug" at the initramfs prompt, but it came back with "no such file or directory exists" if I have that working correct.
I then waited about 5 minutes. Still nothing.

    Should I try installing again?

Yes, and don't type "cat /tmp/*.debug"
    type "cat /tmp/initramfs.debug"

Re: Wubi 7.10 install stalls on Busybox and initramfs

    I got the same error.
    Looking at /tmp/initramfs.debug
find an "Invalid argument" in "mountt -r -t vfat /dev/sda2 /root"
the partition is correct an got the same error when try to mount any other partition (vfat, ext3, ntfs, penn drive) or using partition name, id or uiid
    Any clue?

format your harddrive and take no FAT oder FAT32. I had, a error of this kind, my problem soulution was to fromate the HD in NTFS, maybe then it will work
