Hi no progress with rev377. When I check syslog dmp there some errors. Could Vista be the reason of freezing?

    Much better!

Reinstall and disable migration-assistant by commenting it out in ubuntu/install/preseed.cfg before rebooting

bingo. issue resolved (stupid vista). thank you very much ago. BTW: are you involved into wubi development somehow? (stupid question). And is there any possibility for wubi to do installation part (copying files) directly in windows and only hardware detection (configuration) after windows restart?

    Mayo2000 almost there....

    Edit ubuntu/disks/boot/grub/menu.lst

    root(x,y) is probably wrong.
    X=disk
    y=partition

I wrote most of wubi and lupin, but many others have helped too. See the faq in the website.

Re: 7.10 installation stops at 45% copying files

    Hi ago!

    I almost there...
Installation completed, but after reboot (I removed quiet splash) I got mount errors:

mount: Mounting /dev/disk/by-uid/8Ab9-D0DC on / root failed: No such device
mount: Mounting /root on /host failed Invalid argument
ALERT! /host/ubuntu/disks/root.disks does not exist Dropping to shell...

Then dropped me to BusyBox shell.

    Here is my menu.lst:
    title Ubuntu 7.10, kernel 2.6.22-14-generic
    root (hd1,1)/ubuntu/disks
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.22-14-generic root=UUID=8AB9-B0DC loop=/ubuntu/disks/root.disk ro quiet splash
    initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.22-14-generic

title Ubuntu 7.10, kernel 2.6.22-14-generic (recovery mode)
    root (hd1,1)/ubuntu/disks
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.22-14-generic root=UUID=8AB9-B0DC loop=/ubuntu/disks/root.disk ro single
    initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.22-14-generic

    title Ubuntu 7.10, memtest86+
    root (hd1,1)/ubuntu/disks
    kernel /boot/memtest86+.bin

    Kind regards,

Re: 7.10 installation stops at 45% copying files

    Hi ago,

I started v377 against NTFS partition. Virt. disk size 8 Gb.
But usr.disks has not been created.
    Here is my directory structure:

Volume in drive D is SAMSUNG_180G
    Volume Serial Number is BC19-455C

    Directory of D:\ubuntu\disks

    2007.10.27. 15:37 <DIR> .
    2007.10.27. 15:37 <DIR> ..
    2007.10.27. 15:35 <DIR> boot
    2007.10.27. 15:36 1.000.000.000 home.disk
    2007.10.27. 15:36 6.000.000.000 root.disk
    2007.10.27. 15:35 <DIR> shared
    2007.10.27. 15:36 1.000.000.000 swap.disk
    4 File(s) 8.000.000.000 bytes
    4 Dir(s) 5.222.412.288 bytes free

and of course, after reboot it hangs at 32% copying files...

    Hi Ago,

What about creating a new thread yourself with a kind of survey where you could ask ONLY people that have succeeded with the installation of 7.10 using Alpha wubi 7.10 (unfortunately I would not be included among those people) questions that maybe could lead you to guess why so many people are failing in their installation?

Maybe the answers of successful installers can make understand why not everyone is succeeding.

Re: 7.10 installation stops at 45% copying files

I can get fairly good guesses from error reports... At the moment there are 2 bugs outstanding: update-grub generates a menu.lst with the worong device and large setups on FAT fail to create a usr.disk.

    esox_hu replace root=... with root=/dev/sdXY

replacing X,Y for disk, partition of where you installed wubi. e.g. /dev/sda2

I will check the algorithm for 8GB, it is different from the one of 6GB, but probably similar issue. Should be a quick one.

If you are around tomorrow I can do with some help testing why grub gets the wrong device
