    Thumbs down Wanted: Hardware geeks

    Wanted: Hardware geeks.

Err, I mean gurus ... You know who you are

The Ubuntu Forums Hardware Team is looking for assistance.

Mission: One of the biggest, and most frustrating obstacles in migrating to a new operating system is getting your hardware to work. We would like to build a team of hardware guru's to assist new and old users alike.

If you have an interest in printers, storage devices, multi-media, wireless, multiple monitors, Macintosh, we would like your assistance.

    The goals are to:

    1. Assist Ubuntu users, new and old, sort out their hardware problems, primarily working on either the forums or Launchpad.

    2. Help maintain hardware How-to's and the Ubutu wiki compatibility guide.

You do not need to be an expert on every piece of hardware under the sun, but if you like to play with high-tech toys please consider becoming a resident guru.

There are two mistakes one can make along the road to truth...not going all the way, and not starting.

This looks great, where do I sign up?

Anyway, as Bodhi said, please do volunteer if you are interested in helping out with hardware related problems.

You can help out in more than one way.

The first and most obvious way is to help people on this forum and on launchpad. It's what I do most of the time.

The second way is helping to maintain hardware How-to's and the Wiki. This is quite important too. One of the areas in which people have the most problems are with laptops, so if you have a laptop, and it works with Ubuntu, do comment about it.

The third way, and which is just as important, is to report bugs on launchpad. Also, you might help people fill out the bug forms by requesting more specific information.

Sadly, I cannot be available on IRC nor on the forums all the time, due to studies, but I will definitely do my best.

So, what are you waiting for? Start queueing up already!

EDIT : Potential recruits please head over to #ubuntuforums-hardware

What an interesting set of icons, any particular license and do you have the sources?

OK so as the lead programmer for Dohickey I'd like to ask the ubuntu hardware gurus to consider lending a hand with dohickey. We are trying to build up information about all kinds of hardware and yet the participation levels have been so bad that we haven't even found all the bugs.

Yes but that isn't the same as free. I was just wondering if you made them or not.
