    odd video issue with 7.10

I have been helping test a machine control software called EMC2.
    http://www.linuxcnc.org
The last build was on dapper and works great (they picked it because of its LTS status) This was tested on 2 different systems one with an intel video card and the other with a ati rage. The 'preview window that you see coming forward is opengl. The iso was downloaded on 10/10/07 and updated.

    thank you.

and so people can't say - this is an emc2 software issue.. This is running glxgears.

the first picture is booting off of the live cd on a dell demention 3100 (intel video card onboard) You can see it also 'sticks' as there is an old image below from dragging glxgears around.
second picture is an old p4 with the ati radion card fresh install and updated..

Might be an issue with Compiz-Fusion.. I read here and there that the Compiz crew are still squishing a lot of little bugs to correct some of these type problems. Try turning off the desktop effects and see if that straightens it out.

Looks like when I set the 'visual effects' to none in the 'appearence' control panel - it behaves normally.

    thanks

Samcoinc, are you running emc2 on Gutsy? With RTAI?? Is there an RTAI for the latest kernel?
Let me know if emc2 is running on Gutsy. I'd love to be a tester, with machines currently running Dapper/emc2

Re: odd video issue with 7.10

Heh - good catch . There are some debs here.
    http://www.linuxcnc.org/experimental/gutsy/

There are some issues - (one is apic issues on some hardware, other is the 'pcspkr' module needs to be removed from the kernel)

Normally emc2 waits for LTS ubuntu versions (like dapper) I don't know how far this will go. I would get on irc.freenode.net channel #emc-devel and talk to jepler.

we can always use testers. (that is about all I am good at )

    thanks
    sam

Re: odd video issue with 7.10

OK Sam, I'll hook up with jeplar. I have 2 machines running, both could be dual-boot (so I don't lose my working Dapper/emc2 setups) and I can test.
    Thanks for the tip.

Regarding video - I see issues using VirtualBox on Gutsy, I think it is mostly Compiz. I run seamless mode and the screen and munu bar behavior is ... odd. Switching between Windows and Ubuntu displays with no certain cause/effect yet. I assume this is partly due to Virtualbox lagging a little behind Gutsy/Compiz.
