I just added a command to the guide. See if that works for you.

Did you set the desktop session as Ubuntu classic (no effects)?

I like your site and can see it getting better and better! Good work! I am curious though about why your guide doesn't mention using unity 2D?

The BIOS shows the wireless as activated. I'm afraid that the command didn't activate it...

Thanks! I've been developing it from scratch since November; still not getting much traffic though (1300/month).
The truth is I rarely use my TC1100 and I run 10.04 on my primary system, so I've never used Unity. What would I mention about it? Screen rotation and cellwriter were both having problems before I switched to Ubuntu classic no effects.

OK I fired up my TC1100 to test the command. You need to enter the command as root (and not sudo). I updated my guide to reflect this. "sudo su" will switch to root. I presume su stands for switch user. If this command doesn't work then I don't know what's wrong with it. Paste the terminal output from the echo command.

Random tip: "sudo !!" will add sudo to the last command you entered.

This is a link to an explanation of the purpose of unity 2D, how to install it and a demo video.

I run unity 3D but I've seen quite a few posts from users quite happy with unity 2D.

    Thank you for everything!

I've tried nearly everything; I've installed other versions of ubuntu to no avail. I even went back to windows xp just to be sure that the wireless card worked. It does work on windows xp.

The terminal, by the way, doesn't give any output after entering the command, but when I try to close, it says that that there's a process running...

The "process" running was the root user being logged in.

These commands might give some hints to what's amiss:
lspci - should see if Linux is detecting your wireless card and what model it is)
ifconfig - lists all network interfaces
iwconfig - lists all wireless network interfaces

I'm no wireless expert but I have had issues of my own on an old thinkpad with an ancient atheros wireless card. I found these good resources for wireless troubleshooting.

This is quite comprehensive but if you need help at some point in this troubleshooting, don't hesitate to ask and use what you've found to provide detail.

Yep, it is a "Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 [AirForce One 54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 02)"
