    Teacher web hosts

Anyone know any good web sites for a teacher to post homework, links, hints, answers and maybe a few other things to help students out?

I've seen some free hosting sites, but they seem really dumbed-down--their templates are just way too simple. I would at least like to be able to use HTML code and such.

Also, I'd like to use a site with the OSS philosophy.

Or would a blog host work just as well?

    Thanks in advance.

If you think other sites are too simple, and like the OSS philosophy, check out Sakai: http://sakaiproject.org/

Looks very promising, if not user friendly.

You want Moodle. You can host it yourself or use ISP's that provide Moodle support. For example, I host my personal web site using bluehost.com, and they support Moodle via Fantastico.

By the way, I have a keen interest in encouraging the use of open-source to help educators such as yourself in their vital mission, as should be evident by examining my blog, a link to which can be found below.

I do really care about this, so feel free to send me a private message so we can set up a call to discuss this over the phone at your convenience.
    thanks, dave

Interesting. I am somewhat familiar with Moodle, as a friend of mine used is extensively last year. He had problems though with his district hosting of the site. Give me a little time on this and I may PM you for more details.

    Thanks!

    Thanks.

In looking at that site I'm reminded of how few high school art teachers know of GIMP. They'll pay $$$ for a site license for Photoshop because they just don't know there's any alternative. I've shown GIMP to my school's art department and they can't believe how good it is....

Given what you're looking for a blog would probably suffice. If you used blogger you could have it directed to your own host that way you could use the blogger sight to make posts quickly, and then go through and reconfigure and sort them on your own isp. If you can live without using an ftp client you could try using Google page creator it offers both very simple templates, and it also allows you to upload custom html pages you just can't do so with an ftp client which is the major draw back to using google.
