[SOLVED] Is there an offline, 'fat' Ubuntu distro?

    Hi people.

I just wanted to ask if there exists an (K)ubuntu-based distro that has a lot of packages available. Similar to other multi-CD distros (think debian/Suse). The reason I ask is I do not have an internet connection at home, so apt-get in all its goodness, is of no use to me. I am sure my dire situation is shared by many individuals and institutions in the 3rd world. I need something I can download at work, burn, and then install packages when required.

I've just read a suggested thread similar to the one I'm starting, and I am beginning to think there's no such Ubuntu-based distro. I am a fairly knowledgeable guy, and I need lots of applications (I am a developer & use linux as my primary desktop OS). I am trying to migrate from openSuse, and thought with all this noise about it, Kubuntu is the way to go (yep, I'm in love with KDE & cant wait for KDE4).

I'l have to do Debian then, I guess, unless someone can help.

You should download the full Debian CD-set and then use that. Ubuntu doesn't have that sort of thing as its goal.

Alternatively, you can try apt-mirror with an external HD? Make a local mirror of the Ubuntu repositories.

You can download official dvd images containing every program that is in the main repositories section from ubuntu.com: http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/releases/7.04/release/

You can also build a dvd set with the complete repositories yourself: http://cargol.net/~ramon/ubuntu-dvd-en.html

Alternatively you can buy this dvd set from several online stores:

Also there is a more comprehensive DVD distribution, the Ubuntu Ultimate:

    http://ubuntusoftware.info/Ubuntu_Ultimate_1.5/

But you should read first the Ultimate Edition description in the site, as is not an official distribution,
