    Yes and no. Use the method described here http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showpost...&postcount=135
    for generating the startup services .eap's

    The graphical tool works fine for most apps (the windowed type), but the the method linked above is a much faster way to get startup services enabled.

    Nice howto! I ran in to some problems though:

    I can't find engage in synaptic. Is there some repo I must add?

    Also, how can I change the font size (for menus, window titles etc) in E16? Or is the font size part of the theme? All themes I have tried have fonts that are virtually impossible to read at a high resolution.

    EDIT: Oh, and it's supposed to be "sudo gedit /usr/share/xsessions/enlightenment.desktop", right? Doing "sudo gedit /usr/share/xsessions/" produces an error since you are trying to edit a folder.

    I'm probably too much of n00b to try this, because I'm already stuck on this bit:

    log out of Gnome and log into Enlightenment

    How do you log into Enlightenment?

    When you say Enlightenment? takes a while to load, is that the first time you run it, or on every boot?

    Simply click the Sessions button and choose Enlightenment before you login. If its not listed than you will need to:

    Code:
     sudo gedit /usr/share/xsessions/enlightenment.desktop
    and paste
    Code:
    [Desktop Entry]
    Encoding=UTF-8
    Name=Enlightenment
    Comment=
    Exec=enlightenment
    Icon=
    Type=Application
    into it as per the directions of the original post.

    What's the diff between e16 and e17? Because I have some serious issues with tools in e17.

    How about a seperate E-16 thread with a bit of a how to specificly for E-16 Im not going to try E-17 not comfortable anouph yet to try that yet but am very interested in the recomended E-16 wich I think a lot of people will want to try. Basicly want to set it up so I still have access to regular gnome wich should be ok by adding a new manager entry I hope. Also I wan't to know how compatable it is with gnome there are certain features I realy don't want to do without.

    I think you may have stumbled onto something, knowledge of what is fast and "good" may play a long way to making a desktop that runs well on borderline spec and ram systems. Replacing resource hogs with streamlined components like E-16 may make for an interesting How to and possibly eventualy a version. Im definatly going to try E-16 as soon as I finish reading up on it, thanks for the how to's.

    Casts a Ubber Vote!
    cheers!

    Ok, I've gotten e16 install and running quite well within gnome. But now when i try to load synaptic, x freezes and I have to ctrl+alt+F1 and killall5 to get back into anything, anyone have any hints on this? I"m running on an thinkpad R51.
