We'll be there as part of their monthly Community Days program - which fortunately corresponded with SFD. We should be near the information desk, which is just inside the main entrance.

Bring your friends and family and help expose as many people as possible to Free Software.

If you're interested in helping out we could use people to:
    * Spend some time manning the table.
    * Burn CDs, print labels, or copy literature. (We can provide blank CDs and labels.)
    * If you have a nice and current machine which can demo Beryl/Compiz and other slick 3D stuff well, and you're willing to bring it out - even for a little while - that would be great. We will have one machine running Feisty, but it's not the latest and greatest.

We'll be giving out CDs of Ubuntu and its varieties, as well as the Open CD. If you have other Linux distros or Free Software collections you'd like to give out, bring them along.

Feel free to just show up, but if you're up to helping, please contact me (info here.)

The website for the local program is http://lvsoftwarefreedom.org.

The Susquehanna County group will be distributing CDs and assorted literature in Montrose either in the library or “on the green” in front of the library on Saturday afternoon. There is another (unrelated) event which should be well-attended so we will reach quite a broad audience. Currently we have Ubuntu, TheOpenCD, and OpenEducationCD CDs for distribution plus a couple with “The Penguin and The Pew” e-book.

Literature, decals, and stickers, in addition to CDs, have been provided by the Free Softwre Foundation as part the Software Freedom Day package and also local individuals and businesses

As a follow-up, the Susquehanna County Library system will be serving as a distribution center where anyone can walk into his/her local county library and request a FREE CD.

How did this event go? I just put a bullet up for it on our Events page under the past events, and that's when I realized we hadn't heard anything from you folks!

Two of us manned a table for just over two hours in front of the main library in Montrose, the county seat, in an area know locally as "the green". There were other events going on that day so there was more foot traffic than a normal Saturday afternoon although somewhat less than hoped for.

We handed out about 18 copies of TheOpenCD and ten of the Ubuntu. Quite a bit of our literature was distributed to passersby and we added to our “local FOSS mailing list”. We finished the event with a “photo op” of the two organizers presenting the remaining free CDs to the library administrator and her trusty alpha geek, which was then sent out with a press release/announcement.

Here is a link to the newspaper (a weekly) report:

    http://www.zwire.com/site/index.cfm?...d=467076&rfi=8

Basically, the county library system will now serve as a distribution channel for free CDs. The local computer repair shop will burn TheOpenCD and I will be burning any other special request CDs.

According to epodunk.com, Susquehanna County has a declining population of 42,000 and a per capita income that is 78% of the national average. Our numbers were not big but for a small, rural community I think we did ok.
