Re: What are your boot times?

~60 seconds, but I have a Thinkpad with a tiny 1.8" hard drive. I've found that the time to login is less than half the actual boot time.

I have to say that I'm very disappointed with the boot times. I don't reboot a lot, but there's so many flipping kernel updates...

Mine is less that 30 seconds from GRUB to login....I'm running 8.04 on an Intel 2.80MHz Duo Core and a 250GB Western Digital SATA HD.

Mine takes about 3-4 minutes to boot, WHEN/IF it boots successfully. Anybody want to take a look and see if you can tell me why?

    Re: Attach your boot-chart!

here is mine 5 sec from grub to desktop

for specs see desktop in sig,

os arch, with heavily modified boot scripts

one day i will give static /dev ago and see if i can save any more

just wana get rid of the 2 sec where it seems to do nothing at the start then i can be happy

edt: made bootchart wait longer before stoping logging, so you can see when xmonad starts

There is something seriously wrong with your bootchart at beginning. It most likely is searching or waiting for something to initialize.

What is it doing for first 1.5 minutes? What's on screen?

Generally, it's just sitting. I think the problem has something to do with Karmic accessing my USB ports. I can't get the machine to boot at all unless there's something in one of the USB ports. If I put a Flash drive in a port, it boots right up but the trackpad/keyboard stop working about 30 seconds after getting to the desktop. If I plug in a keyboard and mouse too, then they'll work for about five minutes. If I unplug/replug them, the whole system crashes.

I've posted a thread about this issue.

For what it's worth, 9.04 still boots and runs fine and dandy, with no such USB problems. (Boot time is about 35 seconds on 9.04)

35 seconds is normal, add 45 seconds to it and you get your 9.10 boot since bootchart adds 45 seconds to bootchart starting with 9.10. I replied to your thread.
