There is no need to create a folder. I updated the first post with easier installation instructions for hardy and intrepid.

There is also a good wiki article on how to add repositories.

If I exit the GUI does it stop the program entirely, or does it continue to run in the background?

If it's enabled and the GUI is closed it will continue to block in the background. The GUI is just a frontend. When the GUI starts it can also detect if the service is already running.

    Re: HOWTO: Graphical IP Blocker

Does this mean my computer is trying to send data to the Department of Defense? All of this stuff says Type OUT - and to weird places like State of California, DoD, General Electric...

Someone help me understand this? Just online spam trolls trying to port scan me? or is my PC trying to contact these IP addresses??

If my computer is trying to contact all these sites without me telling it to - does that mean I have some kind of crazy linux spyware virus that is sending my data to the Department of Defense??

At least the logs show an attemp to establish a connection to an IP-range owned by DoD. Is there any filesharing application running ?

With the command "netstat -n -p" you can list the programs using a network connection. It might be useful to disable ipblock during that time.

    Re: HOWTO: Graphical IP Blocker

hello, I am running LinuxMint 6 and for some reason I can't run the GUI of ipblock. Even from the terminal I type:

    tyrone@tyrone-laptop ~ $ sudo ipblock -g
    tyrone@tyrone-laptop ~ $

and that is all it happens it never open the GUI, I think the problem relies on java what can i do please?

There is a GUI logfile located at /tmp/ipblockUI.log. Are there any messages in the logfile after "sudo ipblock -g" fails ?
