    ditto. audio not working. pulseaudio-esound-compat installed.

    "Could not open /dev/dsp"

    $ ls -la /dev/dsp
    crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 14, 3 2009-12-27 14:59 /dev/dsp

    Yes, users are all part of the 'audio' group.

    Re: HOW TO: install Enemy Territory

    Working on a solution now: http://nullkey.ath.cx/et-sdl-sound/

    Will compile from source as I'm on amd_64 (2.6.31-16-generic #52-Ubuntu SMP Thu Dec 3 22:07:16 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux) here. Will post results in a few.

    EDIT: no soup for me, but came close. Apparently the CRC for my build of ET isn't the known one the author used, so the rewrites are probably located in the wrong places.

    FYI, don't rebuild et-sdl-sound for -m64 as it is a shared library and won't load into ET as it is build as a 32-bit target.

    I've finally installed and run ET, after doing the 4th option to enable sound (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EnemyTerritory) but now, i cant quit. i have to reset my laptop once i've finished playing, maybe God is telling me to not quit, but i would like to close the program properly.
    thank dont know if it is the proper place to ask...

    part of my et.bash, can solv sound.

    Code:
    f='/proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/oss'

    grep 'et.x86' $f
    if [ $? -ne 0 ]; then
    echo "****-----add sound programe-----"
    sudo -s 'echo "et.x86 0 0 direct" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/oss'
    fi
    btw: I always offline from servers(become zoombie), more than one time every map. sometimes, after game quit, also can see lot of web transfer with server/isp, when i use iftop to look up. ping too high? or 1G ram is too small?

    Red face Re: HOW TO: install Enemy Territory

    current distro: Xubuntu 9.10:

    the fix for sound that works for me:
    et-sdl-sound

    I used the old package for this hack: http://nullkey.ath.cx/~stuff/et-sdl-...l-sound.tar.gz

    Extract sound to preferred location: /usr/share/game/enemy-territory/

    ###Optional: required if game install in different directory

    Modify et-sdl-sound: Sudo vim /usr/share/games/enemy-territory/et-sdl-sound

    # Do not touch anything below this line!
    SCRIPT_NAME='et-sdl-sound'
    GAME_BIN='et.x86'
    #change the following line to the current install directory

    GAME_DIR='/usr/local/share/games/enemy-territory'

    ET_SDL_SOUND_LIB=''\

    ##!wq to save and close file

    ###now you will have to start the game from the new et-sdl-sound file

    sh ./usr/share/games/enemy-territory/et-sdl-sound/et-sdl-sound

    Sound should be working

    That might be related to something I've noticed, (and I have to run a shell script 'thingy' to get sound working as well), that the application puts me back to my screensaver when it finishes... unless I've been playing for only a minute or so. So maybe your screen saver or power saving is active and fails to respond properly?

    Might be worth investigating.

    Maybe check out your log files?
