9631 is the current official version as of December 4, 2006. So installing from nvidia.com will give you the 9631 version.
The current beta, 97xx is only to add support for the Nvidia 8 series cards and will likely be of no use.

Any more thoughts on missing sound? I've followed just about every tip I've been able to read, and nothing has worked. I get " /dev/dsp: Input/output error
Could not mmap /dev/dsp "
I can kill esd, follow the
sudo -i
echo "et.x86 0 0 direct" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/oss
echo "et.x86 0 0 disable" > /proc/asound/card0/pcm0c/oss
exit
or anything else....I simply get no sound in the game. Sound works fine otherwise.
Anything else I can try?
I am a complete noob at linux so forgive me if this question has already been answered or i'm making an obvious mistake.
Below is what i attempted step by step to get ET installed, but as you'll see, i get an error every single time. I'm hoping for some help by supplying what i did step by step.

THANK YOU!
As frustrated as i am because it seemed so simple, i am very appreciative.

I have successfully installed ET, having successully accquired my first couple of linux frags! hehe (playing as 1lll33t1st_linux).. i've experienced similar issues during install etc as described in this thread and have all been resolved, however i have one final problem (sort of) that is now bugging me....
I am running an apple 20" cinema widescreen display and there isn't a resolution setting in the options that fits my display size.. in windows, the graphics card seems to accomodate for this and fits the game to the screen size automatically... Is there a way i can either a) force ET to run at 1650 * 1080
b) do the same 'fit to screen' type of adjustment that happens in windows?
This is not a huge issue, as i am playing at standard res no probs, merely an annoyance, any help here would be sweet![]()
Maybe you can force it by creating an autoexec.cfg. Go to your ~/.etwolf folder, create a new empty document, and place the following in it:Save the file as autoexec.cfg and exit. Then start ET, it will automatically look for the autoexec file and use the settings. If you think it didn't pick up anything, open the in-game console (with ~) and type /exec autoexec.cfgCode:seta r_customwidth "1650" seta r_customheight "1080"

sweet, i will try that.. i've tried adding cg_setview 100 to the autoexec last night, but it didn't seem to do anything... i will try when i get home (as i'm posting from work at the moment hehe - i'm just watching scripts run at the minute anyway!)
nope... no good unfortunately.... :S
