One of the biggest issues in Linux land - as anyone who enters it knows - is the approach towards 'noobs'. Some distros/forums (eg Gentoo) have a reputation for being very noob unfriendly; others - most notably this one, have a reputation for being very 'noob' friendly. Personally, I think this is a good thing.
I've recently been spending some time on a lot of other forums, and the perception of this one seems to be that its very friendly, but has a lot of 'noobs' on it (whatever a 'noob' is, I have to say that I don't really know to be honest, but there you go). So - I started a thread to test the level (or rather the non-level) of elitism in the Ubuntu forums - here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=522423
...and it got banned!!
One of the major issues in the world of Linux....and we're not allowed to discuss it!
Perhaps I should also say that the Ubuntu forums also have a reputation in other forums for over-zealous modding - about which I should say no more.
I think the only thing 'wrong' with the thread perhaps, was that I didn't outline the context of my thinking. But should it be banned?
