    java classic RPG under development

I am currently developing a brand new open-source classic role playing game framework and engine written in Java under LGPL license. It aims at legacy of games like Wizardry 7, EOB, classic Might and Magic. It's openGL, runs under Java Runtime Environment. So Linux is completely supported. Soon the project will be in need of low polygon beasts, plants and humanoid beings too, and later Java coders will be welcome too.

Visit the developer blog to have a taste of the development, and many screenshots:

The source is in the SVN repository of sourceforge.net and the first (very basic ) snapshot can be found too at the project's SF site:

    http://javacrpg.sf.net

You will need a Sun JRE 1.5 or later to run it, and opengl HW acceleration too!

    cheers,
    T.

I've been covering JCRPG on Free Gamer for a few weeks now. It's a very interesting project.

Re: java classic RPG under development

Looks nice, and installation on my Win XP system went flawless. While FPS is mostly around 90, I do run into some "lag", especially when turning left or right. Taking into account that it is still in development I don't mind that much

I didn't come across any UI but I take it that isn't implemented yet?

All in all it's a very interesting project (Was/is a huge fan of the EOB series, especially EOB2). I do hope you pull it off and get it where you want to. Kudos

Re: java classic RPG under development

No UI implemented yet! Still with some lags in the code it has been optimized a bit since that release too so the next release maybe a bit faster in respect of turning around in the game too...we will see !

    Thanks for testing!!
