    Will this MP3 player work with Linux?

    http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11211376&whse=BC&Ne=4000000&N= 4001424&Mo=15&pos=0&No=12&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&cat= 2176&Ns=P_Price|0||P_SignDesc1&Sp=C&ec=&topnav=

    I've been eyeballing this mp3 player. I was wondering if it will work with Linux. Does anyone know?

    Most Generic MP3 players work with Linux, its usually only the ones that use proprietary software that give trouble (i.e. iPod and Zune, and even those work). Almost all of them automatically mount when you plug them in, like my PSP Then you can just drag and drop your music in, note if the player has any special software to give it extra features you may lose that ability unless it works in wine or has been reproduced otherwise...

    It'll work, but not as well as a mass storage device would. Have you consider any cowon or sandisk players?

    Would this one be good instead?

    Edit:
    What does "Linux compatible (in Mass Storage Mode)" mean? Does that mean I will be able to open it up as a folder and drop my music into it? Will everything still work properly?

    Yes it will work exactly like you said It works amazingly well and is pretty good build quality. I actually own one and am very happy with it. Warranty and customer service are also very good. Mine broke (It was kinda broken from the beginning but I didn't care much till one of the stereo channels died) and I got a replacement brand new in a box with all the accessories in a week with free shipping and a tech who literally asked me "what is the problem" and 5 mintues later sent me a shipping label by e-mail.
    Since I get asked alot, I am originally from Ukraine but am Russian by nationality. My nick means specter in Russian.

    Pray tell how you get a zune working with linux. I don't count VMWare as an option.

    tell the libusb to force 300 volts to the device and getting a nice light show? dunno why anyone would buy a zune to be honest.
    42 is not an anwser, it's an error code. the universe is saying 'Error 42: meaning to universe not found'

    Lol, I haven't actually done it, but a friend of mine who really likes hacking around with Linux did it I think, was just casual talk I never asked him how he was using it... maybe it was vmware, maybe not ><

    Ditto to doctor mo, I like my PSP, it works perfectly on Ubuntu since it uses a simple folder storage method on the SD disk.

    I've had my eye on one of these - how do you handle firmware updates? That was really the only thing holding me back. Also, does it support Ogg? I know some of the Cowon units do event though it's not listed.
