    Who owns an iPod?

While a lot of users here seem to object to iTunes, I get the impression from the support iPods get (Banshee, AmaroK, Gtkpod, Rhythmbox, etc.) that a lot of Ubuntu and/or Linux users own iPods.

Let's see how many people own iPods...

I wouldn't touch them with a 40 foot clown pole.

I got one for my mum a little while ago, does that count? (Well she IS thinking about using Ubuntu so I guess that counts more).

    Re: Who owns an iPod?

By the way, I had one but gave it away. Couldn't do without having a radio. Now I use a Sandisk flash player (256 MB). I also like having an easily removable battery. That way I don't end up in a situation where I'm in the middle of a bus ride, and I run out of batteries and have no music until I can get to a computer or an electrical outlet. I also don't have any worries that it'll ever be stolen.

I do like iPods, though. They're pretty slick-licking most of the time.

I would buy an iPod right away if it supported OGG by default.

Maybe this is too much trouble, but aren't there ways to get it to play Ogg? I keep hearing about this thing called Rockbox...

yes, you can install rockbox (basically replaces the operating system on the ipod).

I have a creative nomad zen, and I love it. It was about 100 bucks less than the ipod with the same storage space.

I would not own any music player that has DRM. Your locked in to one music store and what if you decide to switch players at some point you have to rebuy all your music/

Itunes refuses to even issue a linux client why should I give them any of my money?

There is also iPodLinux for Ogg support but it's not that reliable though...
(I do own an iPod by the way)

I think that's a valid argument for not buying from the iTunes music store, but you can actually use an iPod without buying from iTunes. It'll play songs you rip from your CDs, too.
