Question Anyone recommend some good simple network games?

Can anyone recommend any good simple network games.

I'll put this in context; for me and my brother in law we play 3D games, like Q3 and Cube, good stuff yes.

However, I used to play simple stuff like network hearts or tetris with my wife when we had winblows. Now I've got 4 PCs running linux and have migrated mainly across to Ubuntu, but we don't have those simple network games to play together.

Can anyone recommend any good simple network games in this mould? If they are a pig to set up network wise then please include instructions (or point me to them).

    Thanks in advance.

Try Bzflag. It is pretty hard to learn in the beginning, but is has great gameplay. http://bzflag.sourceforge.net/

    simple eh?

well tetrinet is a sweet multiplayer tetris game, its in unverse with a few clients, gtetrinet being my favoriate.

nibbles just got network support in gnome 2.10

battle for wesnoth supports multiplayer, its in unverse, wouldnt call it simple though.

freeciv is in universe too, it supports multiplayer.

kbattleship is in universe. its a battleship clone, multiplayer support.

armagetron is a 3D tron deathmatch game. in universe, need 3D enabled. in universe.

bomberclone is a simple bomberman clone, savvy. its in universe.

cowsay is in universe. its not multiplayer, or a game for that matter, but i have a special place for it in my heart when i read my fortune. "fortune | cowsay"

    Thanks for the prompt replies.

    I'll try tetrinet first.

Bzflag looks good in fact I've got it installed on my system (still to figure the controls), but it's not simple enough for erm, ... my better half.

I'll let you know how I go. Not that I want to stop anyone adding to this post.

    Two words: monkey bubble.
Add the following to your sources.list
    Code:
     deb http://home.gna.org/monkeybubble/debian ./
and then you can add it using apt.

Re: Anyone recommend some good simple network games?

How do you enable the ability in ubuntu to connect the network game to its host in monkey bubble? I know how to click the buttons but it says couldn't find host.

I suspect I need my underlying network config set up correctly.

The hardware is OK because all PCs go through an ethernet hub to a router and then out to the internet. They're just not yet set up to talk to each other. All my 4 PCs are Ubuntu set up. Anyone help?

Monkey bubble looks cool for 2 players, can't set up gtetrinet from the repositories, tried it but it didn't work for me.

I agree with Battle for wesnoth. Play the tutorial and you are set. Very fun to play coop. Doesnt take very much time or effort, and you can do other stuff while the other player does his moves. Nice if you are on a lan and want to do some chatting/surfing/coding while playing..
