Are you saying Ubuntu stayed installed? Or only that some packages to be removed didn't need removing after all (because they weren't installed)?

I did the same procedure as always--started with a fresh Kubuntu installation and saw what
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
    pulled in.

The installer couldn't continue; after removing the offending packages it all worked like a charm. I think the packages were the ones that got updated after the initial ubuntu install.

    Hiya Aysiu,

    Regarding fixing sudo case 1.

Starting with 12.04, the admin group is now sudo.

hey all i was going to use the virtual box thing and newest ubuntu i was curious how much ram to give it and how much video memory to give it. also how many processors do i want to let it have. i want the least trouble with it as possible. i have GTX 555 video card and a i7-3770 CPU. and 8 gigs ram i like the idea of runing a operating system inside a virtual machine sounds like fun.

This post probably belongs in a new thread in the Virtualisation forum. However, a quick answer:

To run Ubuntu 64-bit successfully in VB, you only need 2Gb RAM, and two processors (well, you can give it only one, but two works better). Mine works well with 50Mb video memory. Whatever you choose, you can change your mind later; VB will allow you to change the settings any time while the virtual machine is powered off.

Remember that while the virtual machine is running, whatever resources you allocate to your virtual machine are unavailable to your host.

If you have any problems or further questions, please open a new thread in the Virtualisation forum.

    Your tutorial at
    http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/resetpassword
    does not work.

    I receive the error
    Authentication token manipulation error
    when entering your suggested command
    mount -o rw,remount /

    I use Ubuntu 12.
