If you want to get back to pure Ubuntu Gnome from Lubuntu, try this:

As I said before, I doubt it'll be a regular part of Psychocats tutorials, but you may find it helpful in this one instance (works only for Lucid).

for the installation of lubuntu, I'm told that the command should be

sudo apt-get install --no-install-recommends lubuntu-desktop

as it stops dragging in some extra stuff. There's more on it at Installing Lubuntu

That's not specific to Lubuntu.

Recent versions of Ubuntu install "recommended" packages along with any package (or metapackage) you install.

So if you don't want extra stuff, you should use --no-install-recommends for whatever you're installing, not just Lubuntu.

By the way, Psychocats is new and improved.

I've gone through each of the main tutorials and made sure they work for Maverick. In some cases, where appropriate, I've updated screenshots.

I've also, by popular demand, added timestamps for when pages were last modified, and I have included Lubuntu on the list of "pure" pages. I've also included ways to get Edubuntu off other installations (Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu). What I have not done is included how to get back to pure Edubuntu, because I just don't feel like downloading a huge DVD of Edubuntu to figure that out... and I just don't think there's that much demand for it.

with regard to --no-install-recommends on Lubuntu.

Sorry, but for some strange reason the update email never arrived on my master email account.
It was and is a team development commitment so as to keep lubuntu within it's very tight RAM and CPU usage that the decision was taken to use the no-recommends option. The overriding priority is to keep within the 128MB RAM space.
