    Make Gnome look like OSX

    Hi you all,

I wrote another article about modifying your Gnome to look like OSX Tiger operating system.

You can read the article at my website. In this thread you can give feedback and comments about it. I hope you like it!

If you hate people who change their Linux to look some other OS, please read the disclaimer below.

Ok, there are almost always misunderstandings when people modify their OS to look some other OS. This is NOT about "I want a mac" or "I want OSX". If I would want a mac, I would go and buy one of those. No, this is simply about having fun by imitating and finding the limits of Gnome desktop. I ofter read that Gnome is considered very plain and not very configurable. I can't agree with that. Gnome is usable and simple, but yet very powerfull and it is possible to modify Gnome into anything you want. Now, I challenge KDE and OSX users to do the same. Can you make your KDE to look OSX as well as Gnome can imitate it? Or can you change your OSX to look Gnome, KDE or Windows? I doubt it, but I love to be proved wrong!

Just to be clear, I don't want that OSX-look would be the default look of the Gnome. Gnome is beautiful with Tango icons and it should continue to follow it's own clean and usable style. I'm glad I made that clear.

Nice article, I plan to follow it later, after I follow your Orange-Look for Ubuntu article, since I find the Orange-look for Ubuntu more original But I will try them both.

nice!! actually i read your first article and followed that one. now, i have a nice osx but one thing is really weird that when i installed the themes, i got the nice osx like system buttons on the title bar, but i couldn't change my ubuntu scrollbar to osx like scrollbar. even i tried the themes downloaded from your article. actually, all the other controls are still ubuntu controls, not those controls from the theme even though they are supposed to be replaced by the theme. could you tell me how to get the controls look like mac osx? thanx a lot.

Which GTK+ engine for OSX theme?

    Hello,

Things look promising for me in several ways. My problem now is that when I select the desired theme (found a random OSX theme at Gnome-Look; the package from the guide page didn't work at all), the theme manager applies:
This theme will not look as intended because the required GTK+ theme engine '' is not installed.
When searching for gtk engines (sudo aptitude search gtk2-engines), it comes up with several choices. Does anyone know which one I should look for with my new OSX looking theme?

Re: Which GTK+ engine for OSX theme?

Its an error generated by the engine coz of a particular line in the gtkrc file. The engine entry in the line is empty. The previous versions didn't bother to throw up this error but the newer version does. You don't hafta worry about anything. Just go ahead

OIC! The problem is that the frames around my windows is not OSX style at all, just the Human style as before (but blue). Sorry for not being specific
