Question Wanted: OS Market Share graps/stats?

I've been searching my behind off looking for stat's on Windows vs OSX vs Linux stats, growth in numbers, graphs or whatever - but found NOTHING..?

Anyone seen anything of interest in regard to this? Or is Uncle Bill doing his best to hide the truth, hehe?

    http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_os.asp

These statistics are based on the visitors of the w3schools.com webisite

    http://marketshare.hitslink.com/

These stats are collected from a number of websites that use a certain tool.

Of course, both have their flaws and you'll get as good statistics by just asking 100 neighbors what they use.

Thanks for both of your comments, I too was looking for this. I'm surprised Ubuntu doesn't keep an updated post of how many users it has, among other possible statistics.

From these statistics, I'd guess Linux could be anywhere between 0.5 and 1.5%.
W3Schools is a tech website, I think that explains why they report such a high number.

No, they're globally. Why would you care about the stats for one country?

Because there really is no way to do that both cheaply and accurately. As you can see in the wikipedia article posted, results vary greatly with different research. 0,5 - 1,5% would be a good estimate, but as you can see, the error margin is huge. We wouldn't even notice if linux usage doubled. Notably, this is the case with hitslink, who report that linux usage has more than doubled in 2007, but no one can be sure if that's true. It probably isn't.

Actually, I think that would be much more interesting. If one country is at 10% and another at 1%, we could see what makes linux become more popular.

I agree, my g/f said that in her holiday in Croatia the only computer she actually used for two weeks was a Linux PC, whereas in countries like America and stuff no-one will see i at all, I think it's probably a lot more appealing to countries with less people speaking english or people with old computers.
