I'm trying to follow up on an email I sent to the launchpad-users mailing list on integrating the forums and launchpad: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/la...ch/001184.html
The main idea would be to show "related bugs" in forum threads.
I think this can be accomplished without any major changes using "tags".
Users can add bug numbers as a "tag" which is easy enough, and then a small script can grab that bugs information from launchpad.
Launchpad currently has a "text-mode" method to retrieve bug information (https://launchpad.net/bugs/8242/+text), which could be easily parsed in any scripting language.
Then users could see what bugs are related to that specific thread, and what status it has, as it might have been fixed when they land on the thread.
This would save the users the time of scrolling through 8 pages to find out what that it has been fixed.
Some thought has to be given on caching information so launchpad doesn't get flooded.
Note that this can be extended to launchpad specifications, answers, etc.
