Should Ubuntu Forum put ads to increase income?

If that's the case, great! A while back this was a bug and I was asked to report it when it came back. I did.

It would be nice to know from Ryan whether they are supposed to be there or not, though.

since the Ubuntu Forum is free and constantly looking for donation, I was wondering why doesn't it put some ads (maybe Google Adsense) to make some income to support the hosting etc.

Well, the NoScript extension that I'm running in Firefox shows that google-analytics.com is being blocked. So perhaps they already are using Adsense... Besides, AdBlock would kill any ads they added anyway.

We really don't want ads anywhere on the site and we have no plans to use them. In the past we have experimented with ads being displayed only to non-logged in users, but it detracts from the overall Ubuntu Forums experience. (EDIT: we do use google-analytics for statistics because it's convenient and helpful)

The donation link is a way for people who appreciate what we are doing to help out a little. For the most part we are doing fine financially, but the occasional gift does help and it gives a way for people to say a tangible "thank you" if they want to do so.

I love ads especially if they are related to my interest.

To me no ads mean more power. A psychological aspect when presenting ubuntu.

I dont care about ads. I'll just block them anyway and the forums will get more revenue.

a) I think you must be the only person alive who likes ads, except the muppets who write them, and

b) along the lines of your idea, I think we should have open-source anonymous bounties to be paid to employees of less cooperative companies such as ATI to 'spill the beans'!!! <--definitely a good use of funds!
