Sucks. Since it's the only one i've got.

Can't login to my existing updated installation or even reinstall it.

Epic fail since everyone seems to suggest I type something at root terminal but I cant get to it without a keyboard.
suggest you go to a local thrift store with $5.00 US in hand and pick up a spare key board.. ps2 connector so you can hard wire in. Might behoove you to get a ps2 mouse as well. Handy things to keep in the drawer for just such instances .. and for the time you dump your Jolt into your keyboard.

Sorry, no modem was detected! Is it in use by another program?
Did you configure it properly with setserial?

Please read the FAQ at http://open.nit.ca/wiki/?WvDial

If you still have problems, send mail to <wvdial-list@lists.nit.ca>.

    here's dmesg output:

    [ 219.166808] usbserial_generic 3-1:1.0: generic converter detected
[ 219.170261] usb 3-1: generic converter now attached to ttyUSB0
[ 219.170376] usbcore: registered new interface driver usbserial_generic
[ 219.170389] usbserial: USB Serial Driver core
    Question?
    refer to link:
    http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/showdr.php?id=253, this device doesn't registered.

as we can see from dmesg output above, its also read as uhci_hcd, but this USB modem doesn't have storage.

hope for suggest or guideline for solution...
    thx

brother's printers - I am installing Ubuntu for many people in Israel (9.04, 9.10, 10.04), many of them have Brothers printers with scanners and usually none of them work out of the box. the installation from brother's website is not easy as install deb package and in some cases do not work on ubuntu 10.04.

Asus P4/PE HDD runs the Live CD of Lucid fine but full install fails as the HDD are not recognized and therefore no partition can be created. (SATA disk). The very same h/w runs Karmic with no problems.

BTW: It would be nice if these community reports could be compiled into a database that would allow users to know in advance if an install or upgrade is likely to fail.

Microsoft USB keyboards (wired and wireless) *are* still supported in 'buntu (all versions, up to and including Maverick Meerkat) - I mention this as the older Wireless Keyboards can be picked up at bargain prices (I have the Wireless Keyboard 6000 V.3) and use it with my multiboot setup (7 Ultimate x64/Maverick x64 20100908 daily). Same applies to Microsoft (and Logitech) USB wireless mice (I have the V220 Cordless; despite the *Notebook* moniker, it works a treat for desktop duty).

The P4C800E Deluxe runs Lucid (and even Maverick) just fine; what chipset does that motherboard use? It may well use a third-party SATA chipset.

    You missed the point
I suggested getting a wired keyboard and mouse for EMERGENCIES. Such as the poster mentioned .. keyboard no longer working .. It could be many issues including batteries, USB, whatever. A hard wired keyboard/mouse bypasses those issues and allows for investigative testing.
